Trojan not detected

I have avast! home edition 4.6.763
I’ve run Kasperky on-line scanner. Result : file c:\windows\system32\dfrgsrv.exe infected by Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.hd

On Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.hd : detection added Feb 21 2006 13:09 GMT

I scan the file with avast : nothing found.

Can someone tell me why avast doesn’t detect anything ?

Sincerely.

Hi gtaillandier,

I can’t tell you why avast! doesn’t detect this, but I can tell you that you should complement avast! with a good free anti-Trojan program:

Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/ (Requires Windows 2000/XP)

and/or a-Squared http://www.emsisoft.com/en/

A quick Google reveals that a-Squared for one has this Trojan in its definitions.

I’ve run a-squared ( free version ) to scan c:\windows and it also founds that dfrgsrv.exe is infected by Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.hd

I can send you the infected file, if you want.

I’m not sure he wants it himself ;D

Send an email with the file (false positive or infected) to: virus@avast.com
You can zip and password the files… Inform a link to this thread and the password used.
You can send the files to Chest and, from there, resend to Alwil for analysis.
Thanks.

I’ve sent the infected file to virus@avast.com but I haven’t had any reply.

Can you tell me why ?

Sincerly.

Hi gtaillander,

This is the downloader for the Spyfalcon infection, see the thread for Spyfalcon infection or also here:

I have downloaded Avast for the first time, within the last couple of hours. Does anyone think I should uninstall and buy something like Norton to be sure of being properly protected? This does not sound very safe at all. I am not a computer expert so am very worried after reading these messages.

Hi Watergypsy,

This has nothing to do with the qualities of Avast. Spyfalcon is one of the nastiest kinds of Spyware there is around, and the one who has it was tricked into it by a fake infection to download this rogue software, as any unexperienced user could have fallen prey to this. Nothing to do with the kind of Anti-Virus Software Solution you have, Just bad luck, malicious rogue anti-malware programs exist, and people fall prey to them. Use DrWeb hyperlink pre-scanner plug-in or siteadvisor to be warned not to click wrong hyperlinks or go to insecure sites or spammer’s sites. The Internet can be an insecure area at places.

Hi Watergypsy,

No antivirus program alone is going to give you 100% protection, hopefully you also have a firewall installed and working

I remembered that Eddie’s Web page had a lot of information links about removal and prevention of spyware, http://mrspock.dsmirc.co.uk/frames.html (click on the English link)

I hope you don’t remove Avast as it is a very good antivirus program ;D

Hi,

I don’t know why everyone thinks this but Norton antivirus does NOT have perfect detection. Like on this forum it has been said many times by newbie’s who have just installed avast! saying that avast! detected this and Norton and McAfee didn’t! I only use McAfee for one reason antispyware because it was a decent program and it solved a problem that I had so I purchased McAfee antispyware. I would never replace avast! because it is free and has a great detection. If I could purchase software online then I would definetly purchase avast! pro but I do not have a credit card to do this. If Alwil were to sell avast! pro in a box that I could buy at the store then I would purchase it without thinking twice because it is a great antivirus. So the answer to your question in my opinion is NO avast! is much better then Norton will ever be. Many times people have said Justin you should buy Norton it has perfect detection but I say NO avast! has a better detection (IMHO) and is free! Plus no antivirus has perfect detection not even Norton. >:(

I would personally advise against it, there are many ex Norton users now happily using avast, some of them reporting viruses found by avast that had existed on their system along with Norton. Others notice that there systems are less bogged down, Norton is resource hungry, a hog and should you install it, removing it in the future can be just as hard to get rid of a virus.

Many report on these forums problems removing NAV all you need do is search the forums, the information is there and the decision is yours.

I am not a computer expert so am very worried after reading these messages.
Not to mention the support levels you can expect from these forums is a breath of fresh air compared to many others. We are happy to help other avast users.

Welcome to the forums, watergypsy.

I second almost everything said since your post!

As an ex- NAV >:( and an ex-McAfee user >:(, I can honestly say neither is as good as Avast. Both of these let my last computer get infected. After more than 2 years with Avast, neither my last nor this computer have yet to be infected.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

 Yes… I came here and, having dumped Norton, albeit thoughtfully at first, have never regetted it.

Avast Home and its forum have looked after me…but you also need to protect yourself by layering protection, all the necessary advice re: progs etc. is readily available here on the Avast forum.

Here the forum users are the winners.

Hope you take the correct path…I did.
