Trojan scare am I clean (any help appreciated)

Hi guys.

Its been a while but a possable problem has brought me back here. My mom was using IE which she got a good talking to afterwards but was notified by Avast that it detected Trojan Gummy or something that it thought was it in Java code. Now I sent it to the chest and deleted it and am running a scan now with so far nothing popping up. Now what is it and should I be concerned?

here is a HJT log below

Im not good as good as anyone else in this forum but if that was my computer id probly look at

C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE
C:\Program Files\Picasa2\PicasaMediaDetector.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_FATIACA.EXE
c:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe

I’m just saying this because im not sure what they are.
Im probably wrong but i thought id try and help.

Hi mr_sandman,

LSSrvc.exe is good, hpsysdrv.exe also (printer monitor).
MDM.EXE is the virus, immediately to be removed, only if it is in the wrong place.
Note: The mdm.exe file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. In other cases, mdm.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this through the analysis here http://www.hijackthis.de/logfiles/44674931623917774915338d0d82e60a.html
Saved for three days from now. What I have found here to be considered is
C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE, Realtek adware.

polonus

ok Polonus

I checked it and its safe

the thing was Zone Alarm kept giving me warnings every once in a while about Java Exploits and that it treated them. Now I rebooted and did a Spyware scan and all is hunky doo but I need to do a Virus scan to be sure but I havent had anything unusual happen

Hi Parachutestx,

Hi what you could consider is to update Java from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
This also makes that you run lesser risks for known exploits. If I do not know a site, I run the Firefox only with the NoScript add-on enabled, and lower the visors only if I know the site. Furthermore install siteadvisor inside Firefox and you will know where you going, a more secure feeling.

Thanks

I did update Java but it turns out I already had the latest version. I do have one question…Both Avast and Zonealarm detected this threat and seemed to have fixed it as both times it was treated successfully. They were first detected in temporary internet files and I cleaned those out and a bit later on it detected a poss signature in the Java area of the windows folder but as with the last one it treated successfully. Now I did run all the scans I needed to and havent found anything

In your estimation what could have happened ?

Hi parachutestx,

What I can think of, is that you were troubled by a wrong automatic patch by MS that interfered with you having HP intslled. This patch has been re-engineered now by MS.
This is what comes to mind,

polonus

Hi parachutestx,

Have you cleaned out your Java cache?

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/cache_virus.xml

Malware files can be in the cache but not removed by AV programs as the link above explains.
