trojan virus detected

While running a scan, a trojan virus was detected. I deleted the file and was wondering if it is a file that I need to replace or can do without.
The virus was win 32.8
The file was "page file.csp
can this be answered here or do I need to do something else?

I don’t think the file must be replaced. Does your computer work well?
But the wiser thing would have been send it to Chest instead of deleting. Chest is safer, you can restore the file in case of false positive detection, etc.

I have seen no problems with my computer since the virus was erased. I had been experiencing some problems beforehand, like my desktop background disappearing for no reason and icons in Firefox missing, that made me decide to run a scan. Usually have no problem with my browser since I started using Firefox. Don’t know how long I’ve been infected. Is there a way to find out if my backups have this virus or do I just need to delete them and make a new one?

the reason I deleted it though was because I was told there wasn’t enough room in the chest. I checked this out later and remedied that.

What is the malware name, the infected file name and where was it found e.g. (malware name, C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.

Program Settings, Chest, allows for the increase in size of the chest and the files size you can put into it, if that wasn’t what you meant by you checked it out later.

The original message that came up when the virus was detected was infection win 32.8 found in page file csp.

Expand the column width with the mouse…

Tried expanding the column with my pointer. Won’t work. I’ve done this in other applications, but it won’t work here. Frustrating. My computer does seem to still be working fine today.
In regard to the virus chest, I went to setting and gave it more room. I have plenty of space on my disk so I didn’t set any limits for now.
I know I made a poor choice in simply deleting the file.
If I can bother you guys a little more, do I need to erase my backups. Is there a way to scan them to see if they have a copy of the virus? I made a backup about a week ago to Cd’s and I’m wondering do I need to make a new one. Thanks guys, you’ve been a lot of help.

You can get the info directly from the file used for the data imported into the Log Viewer if you can’t expand the columns. This is the file name and location C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Warning.log, this is just a text file that you can open with notepad.

When you have the name and path of the infected file, if you can ‘mount’ your backup you can search inside it and see if the file is there at the same place.
Anyway, take care on handling infected files.
