Why can’t you ‘get rid of them,’ what errors or warnings are displayed ?
When you talk of ‘getting rid of them’ I hope you don’t meant delete (although in this case they seem to be valid detections). Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
If you have XP or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.
There is no need to re-format that is an action of last resort and you are a long way from that.
It is advisable to have a multi-application/level approach to protection as one piece of software is likely to provide 100% protection.
There are specialist tools for anti-spyware and this added to anti-virus generally gives a better overall protection/detection level.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
