I have ran Avast home edition and i can’t get rid of Trojan viruses

win32:downloader-ib
win32:small-ahy
win32:small-bsj

the viruses are in the following files

func.exe
qwinoldt.exe
tk58.exe
tk58[1].exe
a0053508.exe

is there any other software i can use to remove these or should i backup all my files and re-format my drive.

Why can’t you ‘get rid of them,’ what errors or warnings are displayed ?

When you talk of ‘getting rid of them’ I hope you don’t meant delete (although in this case they seem to be valid detections). Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

If you have XP or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.

There is no need to re-format that is an action of last resort and you are a long way from that.

It is advisable to have a multi-application/level approach to protection as one piece of software is likely to provide 100% protection.

There are specialist tools for anti-spyware and this added to anti-virus generally gives a better overall protection/detection level.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

  1. If using winXP AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido) Resident scanner during trial On-Demand after trial ends. Or SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version. Or Spyware Terminator Resident scanner.
  2. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

Backups are always good, but its way too early to even think about a reformat.
