Heads up, everyone!! There’s a very tenacious, in-your-face, hijacking trojan horse called “Trojan.W32.Looksky” and it is difficult to destroy. My Avast! program warned me to abort the internet connection when it hit, but after that, Looksky blew right past everything I could do. I ran a virus check but Avast! told me everything was clear. Somehow, Looksky manipulated all of my present antivirus programs and made them give me false statements. In the meantime, I kept getting pop-up warnings about my pc being attacked and that I should go to a certain web site to have it repaired. DON’T DO IT! Keep closing any windows that spontaneously open up. Don’t be surprised if your desktop is blanked, removed or changed. And don’t panic if you see a glaring, blaring red biohazard symbol become your new desktop.
Here’s what I did to destroy it: (1.) I downloaded RegCure (at a cost of about $20 or so) to try to get a handle on things. The RegCure program slowed the attacks down, but I had to keep applying the scans and deletions as fast as I could to minimize the replicating ability of Looksky. (By the way, Looksky will try to disrupt your internet connections. Keep trying to connect, even if it appears you can’t.) I then managed to connect long enough–still closing all the extra windows that kept opening!–to go to the Stopzilla web site and download their malware/spyware/adware program (at a cost of about $30 or so).
Even while I ran the scan, the attacks still persisted. Once Stopzilla found the locations of the trojan horse, I deleted them pronto. That did the trick!!
