I have the free version of avast I ran it and it found a trojan virus and recommended move to chest when I clicked on move to chest the recommended action was not done I heard a voice saying a virus had been found. I ran it again same thing happened. So I had to remove the virus using bit defender which it did. Why is this happening on avast. Also I tried clicking delete instead of recommended action no good either.
Trojans generally cannot be repaired as the whole file is the virus and not only a part of a good, legit, file in your system.
But, sometimes, trojans are detected by one of the avast providers and then create other temporary files (infected) and try to replicate.
When you choose the button, maybe, that file has already being deleted.
-
Are you using the Silent Mode of avast? (Advanced tab of each provider settings).
-
Are you using Windows XP? Can you schedule a boot-time scanning? Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives. Boot.
I ran the boot up scan but I was distracted and when I returned it had gone into windows how do I know if it found anything. Thanks.
If it found something it would ask (require user input), what should be done with the infected file. I’m not sure if there is any timeout delay and it then continues, but if like the main avast process it will wait for input, so I would think it didn’t find anything.
Tech:
.... 1. Are you using the Silent Mode of avast? (Advanced tab of each provider settings).
- Are you using Windows XP? Can you schedule a boot-time scanning? Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives. Boot.
In configuring a BootTime Scan \ Advanced Options \ select default action for infected file
if you’ve selected “Ask for Action” the scan will stop , waiting for user input.
For System Files you would be prompted not to check the " Allow Delete or Move" , or “ignore delete or move for System files” …

Hi Scooby :
In dealing with trojans, I think it best to use a program
that "specializes" in trojans; if have Win 2000 or XP,
use "Ewido" from www.ewido.net/en ; if have any other
O/S, use A-squared Free from :
www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free .
Thanks all I redid the boot scan and at the end very quickly something came up that said no virus’s were found so I think I’me ok now also I will be giving ewido a try.
Welcome to the forums, scooby.
It is good to know your boot scan came up clean.
Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.
I was never introduced to such a feature…
In fact, I think not: or the action is automatic or requires user interaction… :-[
