Trojan?

Avast keep telling me that it has blocked this site:

http: // bins.dns-look-up.com/bins/int/upAYB.int

I am never on this web page and alerts me that it is blocking it. It says that it has traces of Win32:Swizzor-gen [Trj]. How does this happen and how can I remove it permanently. I carry a scan but it is not detected. I am no technical person but an average user. Can someone explain to me why is it occurring?

If you are never on this page it is likely that you have a trojan downloader on your system trying to contact that site and avast is blocking it. DrWeb link checker confirms Trojan.Swizzor also.

Please don’t place active links to suspect sites, modify your post to break the link, e.g. http :// bins.dns-look-up.com/bins/int/upAYB.int, this will not stop investigation but accidental exposure by the curious.

What is your firewall ?
A firewall with outbound protection could have prevented the trojan getting out.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.

Edited URL to avoid it looking like the URL can be reached, for some reason it appears to have been converted to a URL with a Name.

ZA detects and alerts a lot of outbound attempts… most of them won’t be related to that trojan.

Anyway, you should be clean of it.

Enable/Disable System restore on Windows ME or Windows XP. System Restore cannot be disabled on Windows 9x and it’s not available in Windows 2k.
Clean your temporary files. You can use the Windows Advanced Care features for that.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot. Other option is scanning in SafeMode (repeatedly press F8 while booting).
It will be good if you download, install, update and run other trojan remover tools: a-squared, Free AVG Antispyware or SUPERantispyware (trojan removers). Some users recommend Spyware Terminator.
Use the immunization of [url=SpywareBlaster or, which is better, the Windows Advanced Care features of spyware/adware cleaning and removal.

This seems like a LOP infection (adware) which was discussed recently in this thread

FreewheelinFrank and Polonus posted some possible fixes. If those don’t work try running A-Squared in safe mode.

I used the methods as advised tech. It certainly did not find any traces of the trojan on my pc. I tried both Avast and AVG. I checked with spybot as well. None detected any. Since I installed ZoneAlarm had one attempt which was blocked by Avast and ZA. Will keep you updated. I did try in the safe mode as well. Still confused!!!

What program or file was indicated in the ZA blocking ?

The only instance that i found was in:

Checked it with virus total, none indicated that it has any virus.

Open an explorer window again, click Tools, click Folder Options, click View.

Under Hidden Files and Folders make sure

Show Hidden Files and Folders is checked.

Also make sure

Hide extensions for known file types is not checked.

Hide protected operating system files is not checked.

This indicates your Java version is out of date, you need to update Sun Java as the version you are running is out of date. Get the latest version, once you have done this, uninstall all older versions from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Look for Lop in Add/Remove programs, or run their uninstaller program:

The uninstaller itself is flagged as malware by several scanners at VirusTotal, but I’ve used it myself in the past to remove a lop infection that Spybot/Ad-Aware wouldn’t touch, and it did what it promised to do.

No guarantee that it is still trustworthy, though…
