I was having a few problems and did a system restore (XP). I experienced more problems a week later and tried to restore again. No available date works. I managed to dump all Temp. files. Lost connectivity to internet and wireless networking. Boot scan revealed 62 Trojano 1079 and few variants. (Some in the Operating System) Moved to chest. Most desktop icons produced “Dr. Watson postmortem debugger has encountered an error”. I Shut off System Restore. I shut down and restarted/ F8. Selected SafeMode. Now my comp. tries to start, disk drives light up in order, it shuts down and starts over again in about 30 second cycles. F8 still produces a menu, but no selection produces different result. Also noticed a Browser Hijack alert, About/Blank and Http://www…htmlwhatever. Couldn’t get it addressed before the crash. PLEASE HELP!
Hello
First of all…
What version of avast! are you using?
Do you have a firewall(such as zonealarm)?
Have you updated your Windows by visiting Windows update?
Do you use spyware removers(such as Ad-awareSE and/or Spybot S&D)?
If you don’t have firewall and/or spyware removers, download them here, update and scan your computer with them.
Zonealarm: www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?lid=zaskulist_download
Ad-awareSE: www.lavasoft.de/support/download
Spybot S&D: www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html
If you cannot access internet at all, try downloading and burning these software i.e. from friend’s computer to cd and install them to your computer.
Avast 4.6 home ed.
MS Antispyware (Giant) Beta
All servicepacks are up to date.
XP security was setup by the guy who set up my wireless network (a pro). Unfortunately I’m not up on the details. I know I am not running any third party firewall.
The restart is in some sort of a loop, safemode, normal…nothing will make it come on. The drives light up, “HP” comes on the monitor and then it shuts down and starts all over again. F8 produces the menu, but no matter what mode I select…the loop just starts over again.
Thanks, I’m sure those of us who have just enough knowledge to be “dangerous” can get on a person’s last nerve.
