Hi! A while ago i discovered two disturbing files on my computer. I do virus scans about once a week and I have never come across this. Avast finds a trojan and a nother file and I have tried everything but can´t get rid of them. I have tried to delete them, move and rename them, and move them to the chest. Every time I get the same Error: “A disk error occurred during reading” (A poor translation from Swedish). A have tried all the suggestions that avast gives me. I have restarted the computer and scanned it again, but the bad files are still there. I would very much like some help.

I have Windows XP and the files that are found are:
Win 32: Trojano-876 (Trj)
VBS:Malware (Gen)

They are found in:
Documents and settings/…/temporary internet files/content.IE5/36SNNLSD/x[1].chm/

and are called:
load.exe
x.htm

Run a boot time scan.

I tried that, but the scan did not even discover the files on boot scan and when I scan it normally the files are still there. :frowning:

  1. Have you tried to delete the temporary Internet files? To do this go to Internet explorer >Tools > Internet options > Delete files > Click delete all offline content (just to be sure) > click ok. It might take some time to delete them.

  2. Disable (and enable it after) System Restore: Start > Control Panel > System > System restore > Disable > Click Apply > Enable it again > Click Ok

  3. Schedule a boot-time scanning again: Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning > Select for scanning archives > Boot
