Hello,
I’m very new here so please bear with me. I purchased Avast Internet Security today and have not been able to install it. After I purchased the program I was taken to a page that instructed me to click the button to download the install file. I download the file but when I attempt to run it I get the following message:
You are trying to use an old version of the avast! setup. Instead of using the packages stored in this file, the installer will download and use the latest setup from the internet.
When I click the “OK” button I get the following error:
Setup GUI was not initialized successfully.
From there I get a continuous cycle of the first message followed by the error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am running Windows 7 64bit.
I uninstalled Norton 360 this morning using Norton’s uninstall program.
There is currently no other anti-virus running on my computer.
If you need any other information please let me know.
You get the licence. That’s all you need. Store it preciously. You have the choice even to download the FREE version, when you copy and paste into it your AIS licence it will change to AIS by downloading the other files. Here are the links:
I would also run a search on your system via the run bar at bottom left for Norton and Symantec, type one of the names then click see more results and click computer in the explorer screen that opens, it will search for leftover and you can delet whats found, this search can also be performed in the registry but if your not knowledgable in that area then dont go there
I got beaten to the punch it seems, I also had a similar problem after buying it from the store, thankfully I had a free version install file and I was able to register it and get the updates, it works :).
I’ll keep this in mind if and when I renew my subscription with Avast as the shop does appear to have a rather old version that doesn’t seem to like updating.
