I had a unresponsive Avast product on my machine so I downloaded and saved to my desktop another one to use when I uninstalled the un-responding one. When I did the uninstall and tried to install the new one I got a window pop-up telling me that an Avast file was still in my C drive. I don’t mess with my C drive because, as I have heard it said, it is above my pay grade (smile). I quickly downloaded AVG to have something until I got a response here. Please see attached.
Anne Burns did you follow Eddy’s first post. Make sure you follow his instructions. When you uninstall Avast via add/remove. Download the avast uninstall utility as he mentioned. After you download the avast uninstall utility tool run it. Then this tool will ask you if you want to reboot your computer in safe mode. Click yes and the tool will automatically run your computer in safe mode. When that tool appears at the bottom left hand side it will say “Select product to uninstall” and it will have a drop box saying Avast Free/Pro/Internet. I think your one is the free version so select free and follow the instructions to let this tool automatically remove avast’s left over files.
Once that has been done. Eddy posted this link http://www.ache.nl/index.php?location=mal-01. Once you click the link it will show you the removal tool for AVG. There are two types of tool for this each one of them are for different Windows Operating system x86 and x64 bit. You should download the correct one accordingly to your computer bit. To find out your correct operating system bit. Click on the start menu and on the search box type system and on the program heading click system information and in the system type it will tell you the correct bit for your computer (86 or 32). Download the correct bit for the AVG Removal tool. Again, download the tool and manually run your computer in safe mode. Once you manually click restart on your computer immediately keep on pressing f8 and click on “Safe mode” after that run the AVG removal tool and follow the instructions.
Once that is done, install a fresh new copy of Avast Free and after it finishes installing it will do a quick start up scan. Once done, restart your computer manually and register your copy of Avast.
Sorry but when you uninstall any Antivirus Program you must first be prepared to install it’s replacement. This includes doing a clean install of Avast.
You need to download everything you need to do the removal and install before you remove your current protection.
The last thing you want to do is remove your current protection and then go online unprotected to download anything.
Follow the directions in my signature to Successfully Install Avast which leads you safely through those steps.
I am sorry for the tardy reply. I have a desktop that I can use when my laptop is not available. I will try again. Maybe the second time will be a charm. I am going through hoops because I like your product and want to stay with it. Anne
I went to the eHow website and the page was not responding four times. I went to Google and Windows 7 help and opened my Task Manager to lock the taskbar. I am then sent to my library page where the task bar shows. when I open a window, the bar disappears again. I even tried my F11 key and nothing happens. Any more ideas?
