Trouble with new install

Pretty sure there was some bad stuff on my computer and Tired of out of date Norton Utilities so, decided to delete it and try Avast. Did the online free scan and it found nothing. I downloaded the free home virus protection software and installed it. Did the product key and such. When the program did it’s initial scan it found a bunch of stuff (trogans and adware). I was excited thinking all would be well again. There were some files that I deleted when it found them (corrupted or what not). Now it’s acting badly. Not able to find a file or two during boot up and running like crap in general after booted up. When I bring up Task Manager, the CPU usage is bouncing rapidly between 100% and 6 or 8%. Under the ‘processes’ tab of Task Mgr, I see one process that appears to be the problem (jumping between O and 98 under ‘CPU’). Can someone help me get this resolved please. This is annoying and my computer has gone from ‘not so great’ to ‘really bad’.

Sounds like some of the files you deleted were false positives. False positives are good files erroneously branded as malware. To get those back you may need to do a system restore. You may want to wait for someone more knowledgeable than me. Did you delete them or put them into the virus chest? If you put them into quarantine (virus chest), you can restore them from quarantine.

Before installing avast! you should have run the Norton Removal Tool. When Norton is uninstalled it leaves a lot of stuff behind that will conflict with avast! & other av’s. Reboot after running the Norton Removal Tool. Uninstall avast!, reboot. Run avast! uninstall utility, reboot. Reinstall avast, do a boot time scan & report back here with the results.
