I consider web reputation results as an indication of what to expect before you click.
Additionally scan with the DrWeb URL checker add-on: http://online.us.drweb.com/?url=1
or check with http://web-sniffer.net/ or http://www.trustedsource.org/urlcheck/
or the domain rep scanner: http://www.urlvoid.com/ or a whole AS like with: http://sitevet.com/db/asn/AS47583
You see a web rep extension alert, the steer/stay away and then investigate why the alert came and what the actual status should be through a virustotal url scan, via a urlquery.net scan, or urlvoid webrep or a url and link scan.
If users cannot establish the website status themselves, they should ask users here, that have performed these scans a lot and over a long, long period, like Pondus, Asyn, Dim@rik, others, and little old me for instance,
As I am interested in comparing web rep results for the real facts behind them. I compare the web rep results of various web rep sites (extensions/add-ons/tools).
A few remarks. BitDefender’s TrafficLight has an advanced Phishing Filter, malware filter, search result analyzer, antifraud filter, facebook protection and tracker notification. Finds results that others haven’t yet found (like DrWeb’s URK checker finds issues avast does not).
M86Security Secure Browsing is also a very reliable, real time pre-scanning extension.
WOT has a very large database, but also criticised for its user input.
As is norton safeweb relying on user input.
So try to get more balanced results comparing the results with http://www.webutation.net/go/review/…
You can find webutation results consisiting of reviews, website av results, Google Safebrowsing results, WOT results, Child Safety results, best score is 100/100. Other web rep sites will give a site review, spamcheck, security alerts, webhosting info, and a link analysis. Sucuri free scan will do the same and also give web rep and web security results.
Well avast web rep is someting all users in the community should contribute to,
