I would like to test some other AV program (like AVG, Antivir, etc) while my Avast 4.8
familly version is installed. Is it in general sufficient for me to suspend (or stop ?) some
Avast services (or all) so I can install and run those AV temporaly and do these tests ?
In other words, can I install several AV if I can let only one of them to run ? (as long
they allow to stop themselves). Or am I allowed to run on AV program on call only ?
Are the Avast suspend/stop options keeped accross shutdown/reboot sequences ?
Sorry for these naive questions, but one can read many warnings about install/run
several AV at the same time, so I want to make thing clearer for me.
i don’t recommend just to stop the Avast-providers…
the best way would be using a virtual machine…
or if you don’t want to use such a VM uninstalling avast and installing 1 virus scan after an other (always uninstall the virus scans before installing the next one)
but that could although make problems because of staying files from the antivirusprograms…
Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
Just disabling one of the AVs doesn’t work effectively as besides the resident modules, etc. they also load low level drivers which can conflict.
You can use some non-resident av scanners next to the installed resident avast installed. For instance I have ClamWin and I have DrWebCureIt (both scanners can be updated to the latest version), I use these from a 4 GB USB stick, also handy to have with you go places, you have a wider array of malware covered. Do not forget to have added anti-spyware scanners, like SAS and anti-MalwareBytes, but run these things on demand, because they consume some cycles, I have SAS and rubotted: http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/rubotted/download
