Trying to clean up Firefox

This is probably something every other FF user except me already knows, so pretty please?

Quite often when uninstalling an extension from FF, many lines relating to it are left behind in whatever file it is that about:config points to. In particular, I tried WOT and had to give up on it because of constant “unable to access data” errors (probably related to my ongoing slow DNS lookup problem, which probably caused timeouts).

WOT left behind more than two screens of entries after uninstalling it. About:config will let me edit their values, but won’t let me delete them.

Is there a reasonably simple way to clean them out?

See if the following help you:

Thanks, Bob. Before coming back here and finding your reply, I got essentially the same solution over at the Mozilla support forums – interestingly, first trying to search via their database rather than in the forums kept giving me “not permitted” errors.

Anyway, it is quite simple, if anyone wants to see it here rather than follow the link or otherwise do their own hunting. Simply “reset” each appropriate line and then restart FF, and they’re gone.

It still amounts to a lot of work and is something that should be automated when you un-install
any add-on in your browser.

No argument there, Bob. I’d even settle for a compromise like permitting you to select a block of lines and reset them all in one step.
