I’m trying to remove Norton but I don’t remember the password. Would someone know how to get around this?
Thank.
A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
I don’t know if the removal tool can get around the password issue though.
I’v tryed this tool but Norton is still there. When I run Add/Remove it calls for a password.
This link may help–the “reset the password” option. It worked for me on one computer; on another it failed. But it might be worth a try.

You didn’t say what Norton program you are trying to remove. It may make a difference in how you proceed. Is it NIS? NSW? NAV?
I did read that “symantec” (without quotes) has always been the default uninstall password. Could be worth a try.
If it’s NIS you are working with, have a look at this solution:

Good luck.
GOOD LUCK :
I re-loaded the OS.
Thanks to you all for your input.
Wow that is a big step for this problem, but the main thing is that hopefully you are up and running now ?
Welcome to the forums.
Stick around and browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums, not to mention the avast help file. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.
Do you mean overinstall (update the existing installation) or you installed Windows from the scratch (formating)?
It will be good to know if overinstallation could solve Norton-related troubles.
Installed Windows from the scratch. Norton is a verse if you ask me.
Sorry but I did not have time to over installation XP.
Thanks for all the help and the welcome.
Thanks for the info, anyway.
Prior to reinstalling, did you try any of the suggested solutions for password recovery? Your problem was intriguing, and feed back would be valuable.
From Symantec and both suggestion were wrong.

Interesting ;D that is the link I gave in reply #1 with exception to the bit at the end ?Open&src=con_ols_nam both of which go to the same page.
Right. Got that. They both pertained to the Norton Removal Tool. But my question was, “Prior to reinstalling, did you try any of the suggested solutions for password recovery?”
For example, this suggestion: “I did read that “symantec” (without quotes) has always been the default uninstall password. Could be worth a try.”
Or this one: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/0/18f42370eefbccac88256e06005e17c4?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us
Or this one from tls: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2002082212235406
These solutions have to do with password recovery, and that is what would be helpful to know, not the lack of success in using the Norton Removal Tool.
Your original question was, “I don’t remember the password. Would someone know how to get around this?”. That is what we were trying to help you with.
Thank you.
