I received an email from a friend saying that I should disable my Java due to some big security hole in the last update, anyone know anything about this?

OK so just go to “tools” >>> add-ons >>> plugins: in the list there look for “Java Deployment Toolkit” and “Java Platform” >>> disable both of them. Re-enable them once the patch is there (you’ll be warned by a pop up by Java updater).
ps: you’re sure you got Java installed right?
