I am very please with aVast!
Is there a way, however, to turn off the systray notifications that come up when it updates the application or virus definations?
I looked, but I don’t seem to have found the solution.

Right-click the tray icion (“a” ball) → Program Settings → Update (basic) → Details → un-tick “Show sliding box after automatic update.”
That should do it, if I understood your question right.
