There is no way to turn off, forget right click icon that does not offer that nor does the control panel

Not knowing what you have tried and your results/issues it is somewhat hard to even suggest something.
First I would ask why you feel the need to do this, this could be the route of your problem ?
I don’t know why you discount the Right Click menu as the option to Disable the Shields Permanently…
Thanks for the quick response my reason simple I want to turn it off if and when I want to. Yes i can faff about with the shields but why, a simple disable avast should be available.
That’s the best advice I can give you, as an Avast user.
Avast isn’t really designed as an on-demand antivirus solution. There are many background process that would be running in readiness even if you stopped the Shields, temporarily for 10 minutes, an hour or 5 hours or until restarted.
So there will still be some overhead even with the shields disabled temporarily.
As for faffing about, it took me a few seconds to open the right click menu to get the screenshot.
