How in the world do I keep the user interface from coming on when i turn on the pc.Can’t seem to find the setting. This just started today and I haven’t a clue as to why.
It is off by default so someone must have changed the setting (or has been inherited from a previous update install).
Don’t know where you looked, but it should be easy to find, avastUI, Settings, Basic, Appearance - Show welcome message on Windows boot screen (Windows 7 only).
David…The GUI is not the same as the Windows 7 Welcome. All that does is say “Protected by Avast Antivirus”. Seems as though his problem is the Avast GUI (main user interface" keeps loading when he gets to his desktop.
I must admit my reading of the Subject ‘turning off splash screen’ kind of threw me for a loop and that is what I answered.
If it is a regular occurrence, not just a one off hiccup, I just wonder if the entry for it in the msconfig > Startup tab (registry) is incorrect, no /nogui at the end.
problem is the Avast GUI (main user interface" keeps loading) its not in the msconfig. i can’t seem to find it and it’s driving me bananas.
Weird, there should be an entry there, perhaps avast is recognising that and starting it so it is present.
Try an avast repair.
tried repair, reinstall.tried everything. Now it won’t update.Right about now a rival AV is starting to look good
hi,
Update problems unlikely due to any issues you have had: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=109950.0
A lot of users here have reported update issues through no fault of their own or system problems. Just a coincidence for you it happened when it did.
Now avast has one thing in common with avira, avg,and some of the other AV’s. That stupid full screen that comes on every time I start the PC. I guess avast thinks that I don’t know am using it already.
If I didn’t like it so much it would have been gone by now.
- Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
- Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
- Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
Been there done that
Well if it is the avastUI then that isn’t normal, so nothing in common with the other AVs.
If it is the splash screen then that shouldn’t happen either as A) it isn’t a default option and B) you have Vista OS and this supposedly only works with win7.
We have posted lots of images in trying to help, if you can do a screen capture of the pop-up it might help us.
Here is an attached screen shot
OK, since you have previously said that there is no entry in the msconfig > Startup tab for avastUI.exe, something else is opening it.
The only thing that I can think of is that there is a user startup folder entry.
Check this location C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup (or rather the Vista equivalent location) or C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
If it isn’t there you are going to have to do a registry search for avastUI.exe and post the key information.
Thanks for the help.Though I don’t like to go into the registry,I took a chance and deleted it from there. It worked.
Thanks again for the help.
Marc
You’re welcome.
Though I didn’t say to do anything other than search for avastUI.exe and report what you find (just in case) as part of the exercise was to try and identify what the cause of the problem was (e.g. what created the registry entry).
But the main thing is that the problem is resolved.
