As Avast is a heuristic based AV, and so is MBAM, which uses heuristics, what’s your take on the following statement. Heuristic/signature based real time scanners trying to work at the same time fight each other. Two is worse than none. In this case 2<1. The examples being Avast + OP + MBAM or SAS. 
This being the case, should I only run Antispyware like MBAM or SAS on demand?
Can anyone answer my question? I’m asking to find out if based on the statement. I should not have MBAM or for that matter, possibly SAS running real time. Thanks for a response in advance.
I have MBAM on both of my systems with no problems.
I have not needed SAS thankfully.

Pure nonsense. From Wikipedia, so we are on the same page:
“A heuristic as a noun is a “rule of thumb”, an educated guess, an intuitive judgment or simply common sense. A heuristic is a general way of solving a problem”. If two programs use the same “rule of thumb” with different length thumbs, there could possible be different results depending on the order. Or had heuristic rules that said opposite things, so you had to decide which one was right. Are there reports that Avast! and MBAM use the same rules with different criteria? As far as my programs, I use Avast! with its “heuristics” along with Prevx which has extreme dependence on heuristics ( see attachment) with absolutely no reason to think they should interfere. And they don’t. You may have other reasons for not running MBAM and SAS with Avast! 5, but not because they both use heuristics.
I use SAS Pro which is also resident with avast and no problems either.

I have been using MBAM real time too with no problems. I wanted to get opinions on that statement from a smart person I know.

I like how you think. Actually I am trying to justify running my MBAM real time with Avast! and OP at the same time, and SAS on demand. According to you I can.
It’s called a multi-application approach to security, one application is highly unlikely to give 100% protection. So long as the security applications you choose aren’t conflicting if real-time then no problem and on-demand applications aren’t an issue.
Other than the more security applications you have the more that have to be kept up to date (or they are worthless), if you then become a slave to the security software, then you have the balance wrong ;D
DavidR, The above set up has always been my layered approach accept that SAS was previously my real time app, and I recently switched to MBAM as my real time app since Avast fixed a conflict with it. No problems.
