Dear Avast-Experts,
I have two questions. Yesterday (Saturday) I ran a full scan of my laptop using Avast Premium Security. I was then shown a file called “Win32Pup:Gen”, which I had apparently downloaded together with the freeware program Audacity. (I probably didn’t download the program file from the official Audacity website, but from the fake website Audacity.de which I had not identified as such.) I found information posted in your forum that the above file was not malware, but adware. Nevertheless, I uninstalled Audacity and deleted the “Win32Pup: Gen” file.
I also wanted to delete all files from my hard drive that were found using the “Audacity” search. I came across the file “Audacity_is1” in an Avast subfolder (please check screenshot). Strangely enough, I can’t delete this file. Even if I try to perform the deletion as an administrator in Windows 10, I only get the error message that I cannot perform the deletion without the necessary rights provided by the administrator (error message in German language in screenshot).
Can you please help me with these two questions:
- Do you know if it is correct that the Win32Pup: Gen file that is distributed with Audacity software on non-official websites only contains adware?
- How do I delete the Audacity_is1 file in the Avast subfolder?
I look forward to your answers. Thanks for your support!
Yours
