Hi…I downloaded Avast with no problems in my windows pc. Now I am trying to download it on my Linux pc and when I open the root folder, it is empty. We extracted the files in lib, bin and share. Plus, where is the little blue Avast ball that I clicked on in Windows when I need to activate and enter my activaiton key? I have rebooted…please help. Thanks
I have Ubuntu also and just downloaded the command line version for Linux. At the terminal you just avast and the enter the key. It runs. To run the GUI version the command is “avastgui”.
please, try to extract avast4workstation-1.0.8.tar.gz file for example into /opt/avast4 directory and then run ‘/opt/avast4/avast4workstation-1.0.8/bin/avastgui’ or ‘/opt/avast4/avast4workstation-1.0.8/bin/avast -h’ command
Why are you trying to extract a tarball when a debian package is available for avast…???
Don’t you mean
sudo dpkg -i avast4workstation-1.0.8.deb
…???
And why the sam hill do you need an anti-virus in linux…? , it’s totally useless…
deb packege is a wise chooce~
Another Internet myth…
For instance… http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=28273.0;topicseen
If you don’t want to use a command line to run it on Ubuntu then just go to file system /usr/bin and find the avastgui and drag it to your desktop or panel and then you have a shortcut. Right click on it once it’s there and you can add an icon if you want it to look nicer. Incidentally, I dual boot and when I run Avast I can scan my external drives and windows drives; take out any nasties without them renaming themselves or whatever… they’re just gone. No need to reboot windows then scan again then reboot rescan… you get the idea.
