Total fubar limbo at this point. “Uninstalled” free version through control panel after multiple bsod’s in win 8.1 that seem to be avast related, it acted like it uninstalled but the service is still listed and “self protects” if touched, the dir still there. Aswclear does not work ufei/win 8.1 seems to preclude safe mode reboot, it is greyed in msconfig, the reboot to safe in aswclear does not work. Re-install crashes out right after privacy statement, any suggestions?
Windows 8.1 is a BETA, so things will not always work correctly!
For anyone else who runs into this and has a second os to boot from… Booted into my old win 7 install loaded the system hive from my win 8.1 into regedit and deleted the service and any refs to avast, that got past access denied etc. booted into win 8.1 and cleaned out any other refs. an whala… eazy peazy…ps captcha’s for EVERY post suck, we registered we are not ROBOTS beep… boob… beep…
