Been searching forum for many days now for a successful solution to UI not loading. I have not yet found one that works for me and have tried all suggested here so far. I therefore cannot scan my computer or use Avast Free on My Windows XP SP 3 32 bit.
This is what I have tried.
I have repaired Avast Free…no success
I have reinstalled Avast Free…no success
I have used Avast uninstall tool…no success
I have done a clean install…no success
I have cleared out my restore points…no success.
I have tried the above more than 3 times
I am now at a loss…
I need protection on my XP computer and Avast purports to still provide it, but so far this is not my experience because the program isn’t working with the UI,
Any more help would be appreciated.
Meanwhile I need to find something else to protect me,
Thank you Eddy and Bob for your suggestions so far.
I am at my wits end just now with Avast on my XP Pc, so I thought it only prudent to let you both know that for now until a definite all around solution is found for this UI problem I will be using another AV for now.
Ive used Avast for over 10 years with no major issues until now, so I’m sad to migrate.
I will be looking in here from time to time to see if the UI problem does get solved for everyone.
I hear what you say and thanks for the links. I can’t see a solution in either link to my problem as of yet. I might post in the beta 2292 link to just say that this version still hasn’t worked for me.
It must be a minefield to find out the common denominators in the systems that are having this problem. I hear what you say re XP and Avast mostly being ok. I’m one of the unlucky ones just now.
The exact model of my PC is ''Microsoft Windows XP, Media Center Edition, Version 2002 Service Pack 3…not sure this will help but it might.
I have the 2291 Avast on my Windows 7 laptop and all is well. Aside from the operating systems, all other programs are similar and suitably downloaded for each OS.
If I can help in any other way re more info re common denominators, please don’t hesitate to ask.

It sure is without having all the information that avast has.
Billions of different configurations.
Hardware, software, settings.
For some a clean installation is working, for others it isn't.
etc.
(For some reason mine was disabled and I was unaware of this)
Purely by accident and having tried other AV’s and been unhappy with one of them, I tried AVG and had exactly the same problem with the UI…then I read up about it and see that AVast and AVg are sort of merged in some way, so I thought…i might as well go back to Avast Free and try some other trouble shooting…
I ran Task Manager and looked under processes to try to get more understanding of what might be the issue, though not really knowing what I was looking for…I clicked through all the tabs in TM and when I got to USERS I thought it was a bit odd that there were no users listed!
I googled, as you do and found the suggestion about terminal services to resolve the User issue, and in doing this, it resolved the UI issue, for me, in Avast!
