I know this is an already covered topic, but I have tried everything to rectify this. I am running a dell Insipiron 1520 laptop XP home with all service packs and Avast free. I tried uninstalling Avast, I tried repairing I used the Avast uninstall tool, tried reinstalling, I even tried to load on several other anti virus programs like Kaspersky, and Avira. Those programs would not load either. The Inspiron is an old computer not the one we use at home anymore but it is good to take on road trips. I think the Avast is still working to protect the Inspiron computer, I can update it but can’t ask it to run the AV to look for viruses.
You’re right this has been pretty well covered in the forums and many suggestions have been made.
you haven’t said exactly what you have tried (repair and clean install were only two options).
you don’t say what avast version that you are trying to load ?
you don’t say what CPU you have and if it supports SSE2, but without SSE2 support I don’t believe it would install.
Assuming your CPU supports SSE2 as it has installed, you need to ensure that the Terminal Services is running. Mine is set to Manual and is running on my XP Pro SP3 system, for some it is set to manual, but it isn’t running. Try setting it to Automatic and see if that helps.
Bingo, for some reason Terminal Services was disabled. So I set it to automatic and hit start service and double clicked on the Avast Icon and everything is well. You da man amigo thank you very much.
What would be good is to know if
it is avast that disables this service
or if this service was already stopped before but the new UI (in web format) now needs it ?
