UI failed to start

Hi folks,

It seems from reading other threads here that I’m not the only one this has happened to. After a new install of Win10, Avast Pro (build 17.8.3705.249) keeps crashing with the “UI failed to load/This is really embarrassing/AV Service is not responding” message. Clicking on Restart Service the first time is uniformly ineffective, and the second time usually works, but the program will crash again within a few minutes.

I have tried repairing the installation, a clean reinstall of Avast, and setting Remote Desktop Services to Automatic as per the advice given to others. None of these have been effective in solving the problem. I previously had Avast Pro running on the same PC under the same Win10 (HDD died, had to reinstall everything) with no problems. Is there anything else I can try?

I’ve also raised a ticket with Support, but have had no reply.

I used the tool and it said there was a conflict with another antivirus program. The only other antivirus I have running is Windows Defender, and there doesn’t seem to be an option to turn it off.

Update at Microsoft Update and get the latest security fixes for Defender before attempting to install avast. Defender is supposed to turn itself off when a third-party install is detected but it doesn’t always do so. You may need to turn it off manually instead.
