UK.gov sticks to IE 6 cos it’s more 'cost effective

Governments are the same the world over.
Penny wise and pound foolish.
Hi Pondus,
And how would you make that obsolete Rip van Winkle browser secure? With a mitigation tool to bring in DEP and all the other new security features that had to be brought in to IE8 etc? They better start acting now else they have considerably more money to ask the tax payers when the migration operation really becomes inevitable. Well you still have people there learning Fortran, because some critical consumer software runs on a 1975 version software, and not much different where cash consoles with embedded XP is running all over the world, all hopelessly insecure. But we won’t tell you else you will think we are incompetent, just greedy and we use security through obscurity.
We are discussing latest patches here against the latest vulnerabilities in Windows while the real world of government and big corporations is being “held together with rubber bands” more or less. First we have to have plenty of revenues from the old infra-structures and then we start to introduce something new, but please let us not hurry…says the tycoon,

Hi all…
While I wouldn’t recommend IE6 today because of the security concerns and the fact that IE7 and, particularly, IE8 have better features, I certainly understand, in terms of speed, why those who choose to remain with IE6 do so.
Regards…
I certainly understand, in terms of speed, why those who choose to remain with IE6 do so.The only answer I have for this is : "Forgive them father for they know not what they do."
With the ConDEm coalition that is in you have never spoke a truer word Bob.And ConDem,although sounding like a contraceptive stands for Conservative and LibDem coalition. ;D
Stupid Decision!
Isn’t Firefox or other browsers free?
They are also planning to cut Trident Nuclear missiles
The British are bankrupt!
Yes, slightly stupid…but the reason is not because the broswer is to be paid for, but that they have to test them, which takes time and money…
I think had they taken the time to update as and when the updates were brought out, I would imagine that this would not be a problem now…

Without wanting to distract from the thread, that is wrong. The trident upgrade is what is being debated, we will still have the trident, which is still valid…it is not simply just cutting it…Like buying a new computer while the old one still works…
I’m not bankrupt…
Hi malware fighters,
But what about the bug that has been around in browsers for 10 years now, see http://lwn.net/Articles/350390/
NoScript protected against this: top5k?noscript=1" but it will be finally patched with Fx 4.0 with a bug fix from David Baron.

Not to offend you!
But it seems Uk government is bankrupt,
Britain is at risk of a Government deficit crisis worse than that of Greece 18 times, atleast as mentioned here
And I don’t think, David Cameroon and Nick Clegg can stick together so I doubt, Tridents will stay intact…
Yes, it is still a discussion…
