avast! Internet Security 2014 in the US price $39.99 in the UK £39.99 todays exchange rate US$1.67 = £1.00
As a resident of the UK I find US companies use of the US$1.00 = £1.00 exchange rate inexcusable and will not be purchasing this product.

It is the same for most software, it is stupid and costs companies a lot of lost sales.
The UK price includes VAT, the USA price isn’t affected by tax.
One thing, Avast is NOT an American company.
Good point, well made.
Czech company also guilty then.
Try living in Australia. (This is NOT a reference to avast! It is a comment applicable to all commercial software). We can’t buy anything online at US comparable prices, and we don’t have GST (our VAT equivalent) on internet purchases < $1,000. Microsoft itself is a notable example.
But the good news is that the free product is the same price in all currencies!
If it makes rbwroot feel any better,
the Free version will be 1.67% better in your country than in mine.
I just got a popup on one of my machines telling me that my 3-PC subscription is about to expire, and that I because of my loyalty will receive a discount of xx $ by renewing now.
However, I have a trial of the same package (AIS) installed on another machine, and it offers a new 3-PC subscription with a discount that’s twice the amount as the renewal discount.
So it’s actually cheaper to let my subscription run out and buy a new one? ???
Yes, that is often the case, last time I bought new because it was massively cheaper than renewing .
Hm, not something that makes existing customers happy, I think…
