Unable to close Avast

Hello There !

I have a little trouble : I wanna close Avast (not uninstall) sometimes because I need more CPU, avast doesn’t let me do this with the task manager. How can I do?

Another problem : When I unchecked the “enable the module of self-defense of Avast” box, the box stay check when I reopen the settings window…
What’s wrong?

Thanks a lot

PS: Sorry if I made some grammatical mistake, I’m french.

Which is your avast version?
It’s not a good idea to disable the antivirus… it’s the precise time you get infected, but it’s up to you.
Just disable the shields will do the job. Don’t worry about the icon on system tray…

I have the 5.0.462 version !

Yeah, I know it’s not a good idea in general case, but I need all the CPU I can find to use a DAW.
Of course, I’m not connected at Internet when I disable avast.

Anyway, disabling the shield doesn’t change at all the RAM consummation of avast (or so few). I really want to close it. Is there a way to do it?

How much RAM do you have?
Why do you think that releasing that RAM will speed up your system? If you have enough RAM, it’s a matter of the processor speed and not about RAM.
RAM is to be used.

disable self defence.
then close related progs, but won’t help u that much, as avast is rather slim.

I have 2 Gb and I use program that are greedy of RAM.

disable self defence. then close related progs, but won't help u that much, as avast is rather slim.
Did you read my post ? I can't disable self defense. Avast doesn't allow me to. I don't know what's happening...

sorry! i missed that.
and the second sorry for not being able to help you if you can’t disable self defense. :frowning:

It doesn’t matter !

If somoene have a trick to solve my problem, it would be great !

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.
