unable to connect to internet?

Hi,

I am new to all of this but have recently purchased a desk top computer which is loaded with Vista. I have downloaded the free Avast home version (because the trial McAfee it came with expired) but when I want to use the internet it will not connect to the home page. If however, I switch Avast off it then works. Am sure it is probably something really simple but please can anyone help with this?

Cheers.

H

Hi H,

You possibly still have McAfee firewall installed and it’s blocking avast!

Uninstall avast!

Remove all traces of McAfee:

Reinstall avast!

 Hi :

  Recently been helping someone on another Forum with the same problem ;
I recommended using the following Info from the McAfee Support Forums :

" Download the removal tool from:

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save and save the file to any folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where the file is saved.
Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
Double-click MCPR.EXE to run the removal tool. \\ Note: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.EXE and select Run as Administrator.
Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful. "

Sometimes, McAfee won’t be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its “Uninstall Application” if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).
