Unable to connect to the Avast engine...

Is there anybody in here who can help…
I get following information, if I want to start my outlook:
“Avast: Unable to connect to the Avast engine. Avast mail protection cannot be started”.
Next step is:
“ashOutXt.dll is not able to be installed” (free German translating…)
…and my on-access-scanner told me, it is waiting for a start of a subsystem, but unfortunately it forgot to told me which subsystem…

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

What the on-access scanner is waiting for is MS Outlook (not express) to start. Is your email program, MS Outlook Or outlook express ?
If MS Outlook, what version is it ?

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
