Unable to install

I just d/l the avast/home version. I try to run the .exe and it does nothing. Could there be some virus/spyware that could be preventing this. I can run other .exe files just fine. I’ve been trying to get rid of this “coolsearch” crap in IE. Adaware Pro does’nt catch it. Any and all help welcome. I’m trying to avoid a “Format”.

Thanks

You mean you cannot start the avast! installer?
If yes, I’d rather suspect a corrupted download… how big is your file (and filename)?

A lot of things can cause this, these are the most common ones:

  • Damaged installer (bad download)
  • Damaged OS
  • Malware infection
  • Conflicting software

Questions:

  • Is it really not running (check taskmanager)
  • Check your drive if you can find a folder created by Avast
  • Check the system and event log files for errors
  • Have you used CWShredder to remove the CoolwebSearch?
  • Have you tried HijackThis?

When I click on the .exe nothing happens. It does not show up in Task Mgr. I will try your suggestions and see what happens. I got a bad feeling that I’m gonna have to start from scrath.

Thanks

Can you not give Igor the name of the file you downloaded and its size? That way he can check for corruption against the correct file and size.

Have you been able to install any other .exe program installs?

Have you tried scanning your system with one of the in-line anti-virus scanners?
