unable to log into Management server connection

Following a lengthy and unsuccessful download of the mirror (the process just halted), I removed the ADM app from the MS 2k server.
I then re-installed the ADM and ignored the mirror option.
On running management server connection and selecting the appropriate server, the folowing error is displayed when clicking OK.
“unable to login a administrator or connection error”

any ideas please?

Is the “avast! Management Server” service running? (Administrative Tools → Services).

Also, isn’t there anything relevant in the file \data\error.log?
