Unable to Login, Keeps logging me out

I just got AVAST 4.7, restarted my computer and started scanning files before I logged in. I guess AVAST deleted some (.exe’s) that were needed for login, now I am unable to login. Everytime I try, it won’t even load the desktop before logging me back out? Any help?

avast doesn’t automatically delete file it requires user input or to have been set-up to do so. The usual default action recommended by avast is Move to the Chest. Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Can you log in to safe mode, keep tapping F8 on boot, you should get an option to boot into safe mode ?

Safe Mode doesn’t work.

I was moving everything into the chest, and then I guess I somehow hit the “delete” number and it deleted about 10 (exe.'s)
So technically I guess it my fault since I deleted the required extentions to login to windows, but is there any way to acquire the deleted files by running the Avast Scan before login???

It doesn’t matter who is at fault your problem exists.

Since this happens before boot it can’t send files to the recycle bin, etc. so deletion proper will take place.

I would say the only thing that may save you is a “deleted file recovery tool” a google search for that returns many hits, http://www.google.com/search?q=“deleted+file+recovery+tool”, I have heard of people using Undelete previously. Unfortunately not all deleted files are recoverable, the file technically still exists, just the entry in the file table is deleted.

Your other problem is you will need to find a tool that will work from DOS, etc. as you can’t get into your system.

If you have your Windows CD you could try a repair install (boot with the CD in the drive, you may need to change the drive boot order in the BIOS), this may replace any deleted files, but you would then need to visit windows update to ensure your system is up to date.
