Unable to open virus chest?

??? I am running Avast home 4, I have been having a lot of trouble with my PC so I ran a through scan on it.
The scan told me that I had “W32:NETSKY-Y” WORM. I sent the virus to the chest and let the scan continue.
I got up this morning and opened the log and the following were found and I ASSUME sent to the chest as well.

Win32:Netsky-AF
Win32:Kuang2 ( this is not actualy a virus, it told me on pcpitstop that it would show up as one when i ran their online scan)
WIN32:DIALER GEN
there were also a couple of adware gen files found.

Now after reading the log book I click on the virus chest so I can see if the files are needed and can be repaired or if i should just delete them. The virus chest gives me an error and will not open now.

What should I do?? I have been and still am unable to run my windows update and I am wondering if this is due to one of the viruses? but then putting it in chest should of fixed this problem and yet I am still unable to do the update.

I run windows 98 2nd ed

Worm and trojans can’t be ‘really repaired’ even when you could see that into the Chest as more than file infectors (like the executables) they consist into registry keys, mutanting files, etc.

If the files are into Chest, you can let them there, they’re safe there and can’t harm you or get out from the Chest.
Wait two or three weeks and you could delete the files for sure.

The Chest error that avoit its opening could be, maybe, corrected if you repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
The Windows Update problem is strange too, why don’t you run some antispywares scanning: ewido, a-squared, spybot…?
