Unable to register

A day or two ago I noticed a white “X” in a red circle superimposed over the orange and white avast icon in my Windows XP system tray.

When I double clicked on it I got this messsage:

YOU ARE UNPROTECTED Your program registration has expired Please register

But when I clicked on Please register I got this message:

The online content is unavailable Please, check your internet connection and try again.

I’m an old disabled guy with worsening cognitive deficits, so I have difficulty solving problems like this one. I’d be grateful if someone could walk me through the steps to re-register my free Avast installation.

Thanks, Asyn, for that speedy and easy to understand reply.

I tried to follow your instructions, but when I clicked on “Register now,” a little box appeared with a rotating circular graphic that would spin for about 15 seconds and then disappear. (Please see attachment).

But the “registration form” referred to in the instructions did not appear. I was just left looking at the same “Your subscription” page with the “Register now” button on it. And each time I clicked the “Register now” button, the same thing happened, or rather I should say, nothing happened, the wheel would just spin for 15 seconds and then disappear again, leaving me looking at the same page.

Any ideas on how I can get past this impasse?

Hi Will, best you use the offline registration.

Vielen Dank, Asyn! Das hat den Trick! (That’s what Google translate came up with when I entered “That did the trick!”

I appreciate your diligence in sticking with me until I got this problem solved. I could never manage to keep these old hand-me-down computers running were it not for the kindness of folks like you who are so generous in sharing their time and expertise over the Internet.

Thanks again,
