I’ve been using Avast Free since the 1990s, and I very recently bought the Premier Version. This morning I also purchased Avast Grime Fighter, and when GF refused to scan, I did a boot scan, with these horrible results.
I must find a way to solve the problem without reinstalling windows because this problem is on my main worksation, and I must do urgent work. Reinstallation of all my essential programs will take days.
avast is a antivirus program and will only take action on infected files …when detected it will give them a malware name
this is just a scan error report…avast will not / and can not repair corrupted files
anyway they seems to belong to win update … try clean your computer with CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/
Thanks for asking the question, Eddy,
I just did another boot scan because I wasn’t 100% sure of the answer. They are not flagged at all. The information I gave in my original post is all that appears on the screen, and this time around, I wasn’t even given the 10-item menu of how to handle the files.
Also, I don’t know if I should follow the advice given by Pondus. CCleaner has helped me quite a bit in the past, but sometimes it does TOO MUCH cleaning, I think, because it has made bad situations worse for me on 2 occasions.
Thanks a lot, and if you have any other ideas, I would love to hear from you again. Also, the fact that the Avast Grime Fighter refuses to scan my computer is worrisome. I’m going to try to use it again, and take note of the exact error message it gives me.
Ok, don’t worry about the files.
They are legitimated, not infected so just ignore “corrupt” message.
avast (and all other scanners) can’t scan certain files.
Amongst them are password protected files, certain damaged packed files and some others.
Because they package is corrupt, avast is not able to unpack them in order to scan the files inside the package.
You can’t say what is in a closed chest if you can’t open it
Anyway, you did the right thing with coming here.
When in doubt, it is better to ask/tell than to remain silent
If you want to know about GrimeFighter, there is a separate forum for it on this webboard.
