The last two scans I have done in the results box is a line that says unable to scan file with file showing as c:\Users ect ect I cannot move it to the chest delete it or move it Is this something to worry about. Only recently changed from AVG8 to Avast
Are you using Vista? That were symbolic links (not real folders) that aren`t being scanned. The real files and folders ARE being scanned if you ask them to be scanned. Nothing to worry.
How was AVG8 removed.

Yes I am using Vista. It was just on the first four scans I did this it did’nt come up. The other thing that came up was that I sent some Smilies from a site called Smiley Central via email to myself and then saved them to Pictures. On the scan they all came up as infections does this normaly happen.
I did a complete AVG8 uninstall and cleanup then installed Avast did’nt have a problem till the last two scans.

Welcome to the forums, whitestarling. 
Smiley Central is not a good site to visit. You will always run the risk of infection from that site. More than 8 years ago, one of my old computers was infected from using that site. See the images below taken from a ScanDoo/google search. Click them to enlarge.
