when compressed files are protected by password (like these), it’s impossible to scan by any antivirus software. If you want to delete the traces of your old AVG installation, try this:
1 - Deselect the “Restore System Configuration” in WinXP (you use this OS, i suppose);
2 - Restart in “Safety Mode” and delete the files unnedeed;
3 - Close and Restart.
Pay attention: this is not a secure step because some files are shared with other applications and they can determine damages or loss of dates. Try to download some free software for the registry cleanup, like RegCleaner ( www.jv16.org )
A little fearful to delete:
C:\Documents and settings\Michael Spine\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\DHL6VBHI\avg70free_308a468[1].exe\files.dat
C:\Documents and settings\Michael Spine\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\DHL6VBHI\avg70free_308a468[1].exe\
When I go to open file:
Extracting license_us.txt
Extracting readme_us.txt
Extracting avgsetup.exe
Extracting files.dat
CRC failed in files.dat
Unexpected end of archive.
I have scanned once before and it was found to have a “beagle” virus, but no problems like the one above.
Should I just go ahead and delete the files above. Sorry for being to cautious.
Files are not downloaded from the internet successfuly as pk told you… it’s corrupt archive, therefore no use of it. Completely delete it and download again from some other location.
Btw, I see you are downloading AVG antivirus and scanning it with avast!
Just friendly advice - never ever install and run 2 or more different antiviruses with resident protection enabled on the same computer. You’ll save yourself a lot of headache, otherwise, I’m 100% sure you’ll come back in these forums with even more problems and questions.
