Unable to send email using outlook

Hi,

Am currently using Avast! Free Antivirus. Recently, I tried to set up my Cambridge university email account with outlook 2010. Was unable to send outgoing email because of something to do with my mail shield function. Once I disabled it, I was then able to send outgoing email. When I check with my university tech support, this was the comment given:

“Something really strange is going on here. Your email software is failing to follow the protocol specification correctly. It is using the “STARTTLS” command (which is correct) but that command requires the client to enable SMTP service extensions, which it is not doing: it is using the 1980s HELO command to start the connection instead of the 1990s EHLO extended startup command. It is really hard to imagine how the programmers could get this wrong”

I’m hoping that someone from the developer team has a look at this.

Thanks
Benuel
