Unable to send in Windows mail after installing AVST (0x800CCC0E)

Hi,

I very much hope you can help me.

I installed AVG on my new Vista laptop and it stopped me being able to receive mail in Windows Mail. I removed AVG and found could send email again (I gather AVG is not yet Vista compatible). I installed AVAST instead and it stopped me being able to SEND mail. I trawled the internet for solutions and all I found was suggestions that I should 1) disable the internet and outlook/exchange services, 2) allow AshMaiSv through the Windows Firewall and 3) drop and recreate the account in Windows Mail. Having done all those things I still got the same error. This is the error:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject ‘Computer Outbox Test’, Account: ‘pop.tiscali.co.uk’, Server: ‘smtp.tiscali.co.uk’, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have checked and recreated the mail account many times now and I’m pretty sure it’s correct.

I then uninstalled AVAST (was about to try Anti-Vir); I hoped it would make the problem go away as it did when I took AVG off. However, the uninstall did not resolve the problem. I got the same error. Now I’m stuck and it looks like AVAST has done something to permanently make my SMTP server connection fail. Can anyone please help me either fix it with AVAST on or fix it with it off (I would be very happy with either

Thanks in advance,

Regards, Rob Moore

Were AVG or Antivir installed when you’ve tested avast?
How did you uninstall AVG and/or Antivir?

berto2002, why don’t you recovering the system to day before you installed AVG? I don’t know about Vista, but in XP it work’s.

I suggest that you uninstall AVG through Control Panel > Add/remove programs before restoring your system to a previous state.
