Unable To Send/Receive Email With Mail Shield Sacnning Inbound/Outbound Messages

Hi,

I’ve been an Avast user for a long time. Just got a new desktop today which has Outlook 2010 loaded on Windows 7. I installed Avast, version 5.0.594.

I have configured Outlook to pull messages from a Pop account like I have done many times in the past.

My problem is that I am unable to send/receive messages if the Avast Mail Shield is scanning Inbound/Outbound messages. If I disable it, I have no issues, but am probably not protected.

Additionally, I cannot access the Internet while the Avast Web Shield is Running.

I have Avast running on other Windows desktops at the same location with the same router/email pop settings and do not have any issues, so I am thinking it might be something related to Outlook 2010?

Thank you for any assistance.

welcome to the forum. I’m no expert on this area but i think you have to configure avast so it have access to outlook 2010 lets hope someone with more knowledge in this area can help you.

Two of my email accounts permanently fail since installing Avast! Fortunately they are both rarely used and so I have not bothered to sort it out yet. There was a notification from Avast! the first time - something about having to change the way I had them set up. I cannot see why I would have to change something there for Avast! ???

In order for e-mails to be scanned by the Mail Shield, it is necessary that encryption is turned off in the mail client software.

If someone does not wish to turn off encryption? This has never been an issue with any other software I have used. It would seem logical for Avast! to fail to scan the email (perhaps with a message notifiying the user) rather than interfere with the email client…or am I missing something?

Well avast is telling the user in the form of the error message. If you want to keep it as it is then avast can’t scan your email so you might as well disable the Mail Shield or stop the inbound or outbound scanning in the mail shield.

Your email won’t be unencrypted, that will be handled by avast once it has scanned the email it will be transmitted encrypted.
