Unable to Start Avast Firewall after version 2014.9.0.2021

Hey

Just updated Avast and all went ok except now It it reports it cannot start the firewall, It also gave me an error saying it was unable to protect mail (have forgotten specific)
I have done a full removal using the downloadble tool and a fresh install and still the issue persists. Windows firewall is off and Defender is disabled

Help is appreciated

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Did that, still nothing. Repair completes and firewall is still off and unresponsive

  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV(s) did you use before avast!..??

Just did a repair and reboot then and nothing has changed
Running Windows 8.1 64bit, And have only ever run Avast on this PC. All windows firewall is disabled and defender is off

No, you’ve to reboot after the repair.

Yes I did that AFTER the repair, my fault for wording it backwards

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Strange. Try the repair again and reboot 3-4 times afterwards.

Repairing now, Also if it helps when I mouse over the tray icon I get the version number followed by 140626-1 as an error message?

To rule out an infection, attach your logs. (MBAM, OTL and aswMBR…!!)

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.
