I have installed Avast 5, but I cannot seem to get the Firewall to start. Neither clicking on “FIX NOW”

solve this problem. Also, “Enable all shields” has no effect. The status of the Windows firewall on or off does not have any effect. Using the repair function has no apparent effect. I tried reinstalling Avast 5, but this made no difference. Please help!
What antivirus did you have before installing avast ?

I didn’t have any antivirus before Avast. When I reinstalled Avast I uninstalled the previous download before installing the new download.
I used the change function to uninstall the Firewall component and then to reinstall it. Upon system restart I had the blue screen of death. I started in safe mode and ran the repair function. When I restarted the system, the Firewall detected my network connection for the very first time and now seems to be operating. ;D

I need help with the avast 5.0 update, windows defender says that avast it out of date and then I go to the avast interface at it says that the firewall is off, I click fix it and it does not do anything and it says that the firewall it not available, I tried to add to the firewall the avast file and nothing, it is not updating , it says also that it cannot connect to the server but I can browse the internet just fine, what is going on? I’m not computer savvy at all I just bought this program for protection and now I’m opening a can of worms…Can someone spell it out for me please? thank you…
Go to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs
Click on avast! Internet Security
Click the Change/Remove button
On the avast! Internet Security Setup window scroll down to Repair and click on it
Click on the Next button
Let me know if this makes any difference.
Don’t forget to restart after that to take changes
