ps:10.3.2225 worked fine before (during 1 week)
Edit: after all repairs I do , I have the same error message : Failed to load language.dll , language path:1033\UILangRes.dll
(french language)
And avast UI go to english until reboot

Download fresh copy of avast clear exe here: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility Follow instructions exactly. You don’t want to tell it to remove anything else other than avast.
Use a good system to download and transfer files/programs over. Run Programs and Features and uninstall avast. Put aswclear.exe on your desktop double-click that and reboot to administrative Safe Mode. Run aswclear.exe using default settings. Reboot to normal administrator desktop. Install avast. Reboot.
Better now?

I have already a fresh copy of all my old AIS versions and avastclear (SfxInst v.10.3.2225.1172) , downloaded here and nowhere else … instructions followed exactly.
Never others different antivirus (and firewall) program installed , I’m a 10 year (at least) avast IS user.
Other security programs I use : Malwarebytes , adwcleaner , JRT .
Except webshield (seems to work anywhere in statistics) , I can’t noticed any troubles with my system (no slowness , no infected files , no blue screen ,no error messages to take care).
For language issue after repair, it’s ok now , I install english language too , the french UI is ok now.
However , during repair or during web shield installer (tried to remove only this with control panel) , the file “KB970158_x86.exe\quiet” wait behind 1 minute , I don’t know if it’s normal (net.framefork file ?)
At the moment, the best I can do for you is to direct you to an older version of avast that works well with XP SP3. This link is from here and it is for version 2015.10.2.2218.942 (modified to download AIS version): http://public.avast.com/~havel/2218/avast_internet_security_setup.exe (Link verified)
You are not the only one experiencing unusual bugs and whatnot running the latest version of avast and XP. I’d stay on this version for now once you install it until the fix is in on the latest released versions related to XP.
You will, of course need to save your license for use later.
As a general practice, I would suggest saving all known good working avast installation files for possible future use just in case.

As I said , it’s what I do , I have all old version , it’s difficult to download later secured old version of AIS :-[ (easier for Avast antivirus)

strange it worked fine during a month with 2223 and 2225.
I have an other 2nd pc with W7 and a 3th with Wxp pro SP3 without any problem for now , until …? :
Yes, glad you got it sorted out, proving you are one of the wise ones.
Be sure to set version 2218 to not automatically download or install the latest version(s). That way there will be no unwanted surprises.

tried with new 2233 version.
Always issue with web shield disabled (even after a clean install with tool in SM) 
Back again to 2218 and all is right.
Is someone know why avast (2223,2225,2233) start the KB970158.exe/quiet in the end of the install ?
I’m pretty sure there are something wrong with this KB in my winxp-sp3 prevent avast WS install.
I don’t know if it’s possible to re-install this KB or main soft who use it.

I know there is something wrong in my pc , but as I said in this post , I have already done more or less 10 times the accurate way to do a clean install.
Now,I don’t want to do a 11th attempt but I would like to understand what is wrong in my config to prevent the latest 3 install versions of avast.
Log I have sent to avast with ticket opened not allowed them to answer me , so I keep the 2218 version again , but one day …

Is there a way to understand how I’am web unprotected.
Not sure avast web shield doesn’t done his job anyway , maybe just an UI issue ?=> look at screen and web shield activity => links seems to be scanned , the number is incremented but the curve remains flat :-
nb:default langage is “french” but I just tried with “english” UI , same : WS doesn’t start.
Is there a false infected link to see how behaves avast ?

No more web shield enabled with bêta, desperately disabled (just enabled few seconds before change to desactivated)
More of that , beta doesn’t recognize my avastlic license file (corrupted or bad signing).
Well , back to 2218 :-[
I wound up going into Safe Mode, did the un-install through Programs and Features, Rebooted, went back into Safe Mode and
the ran Avast removal tool. After a reboot, I was able to install Avast Free 2016 without any further problems.
Everything is now working.

Yet , this is exactly what I did
1-un-installed v2218 , I returned to this release for security reasons (WS out with v2233)
2-used the appropriate removal tools in Safe Mode
3-installed AIS beta 2016 in normal mode => but avast doesn’t want my avastlic file in progress (until october 2016)
Anyway , the main will I have installing beta was to enable Web Shield , and licence or not licence ,this shield turns off immediately after I manually active.
Other big trouble , the special & appropriate removal tool for beta didn’t work when I ran it in SM (just 1/2 second to see avast location folder , then tool UI closed)
nb:others removal tools (for v2233 or v2218) work fine anyway
Now , after a long time spent trying to repair the damage , I hope it will not stay too annoying traces of installing the beta.
Apparently, everything is returned OK with the 2218 release.
I also hope avast support has not forgotten me and my package sent there are 10 days.
