I think I may be a defective download so I would like to uninstall Avast and try again with a fresh download.
Guess what? I go to uninstall from the top left menu and it says:
Uninstallation failed. The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -60007.)
Now what do I do?

This could be caused by a very rare issue which we know about. It should be fixed after reboot or even log out / log in.
BTW I doubt it’s a defective download, DMG files are checked for data corruption upon mounting.

this is an OS error provided with authorization service (errAuthorizationInteractionNotAllowed, -60007). Could you try to launch an Avast application with a Finder (or any other mean except a top menu) and repeate an uninstallation? Reboot should work as well. Currently we can reproduce such an issue (with rather complicated steps) but we have no clue what is a root cause in the operating system.
