Win 7 Home, 64bit PC. Avast free installed to help with Kovter Trojan. Lost ALL data files. Avast did not identify trojans or virus’s so would like to remove it. Tried through WIndows Add/ Remove programs.
Tried in safe mode with AvClear.exe. All stop at same point. Have to reboot because services will not stop using CTR-ALT-DEL
All attempts get stuck on the uninstall screen shown below.
All attempst to unistall stop here: Launching executable file: wsc_proxy.exe/svc/unregister/firewall
This is my MIL’s computer. She had a paid version of Avast but when I checked her system it was not running. She doesn’t know how to turn it on or off so based on how recent all the files were changed by the Trojan, I think a virus probably did something to stop the AV
There were no other AV programs installed when I tried to remove.
I installed SpyHUnter 4 to get rid of malware and system is currently clean
I suggest you take Pondus’s advice and have a Malware removal expert take a look as to what’s going on with the system.
Follow the instructions outlined here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=194892.0
There are no virus’s or malware on the system any longer. I cleaned the system using a different program and ran several scans using programs suggested in the malware forums that you directed me to. I was not able to find any post in that forum that would help identify the specific problem I’m having with the complete removal of Avast. Could you point me to a specific post?
Before I posted this message I also worked with ATT virus/malware/spyware online (all done after I cleaned the system) and they remoted into the computer and ran a few of their own products and verified that the system is totally clean. However, they will not assist with the removal of Avast
I do want to add that I appreciate the help that everyone is providing. I’m sure there is something I haven’t tried yet/
In the Avast malware forum the Kovter trojan is not listed with any instructions on how to clean it. When I did a search of the forums, it has been reported that Avast has not found this trojan and people have had to use other software. I do understand that there isn’t an AV program that will locate every virus, malware, etc…
However, I can install McAfee fully paid for and supported by ATT so should there be further issues, my M-I-L can call or chat with a live rep for free and immediately.
Thank you for your suggestion. It appears that this tool is only available for paid Avast accounts.
Unfortunately, my MIL is unable to locate her receipts so now I’m not certain that her paid account didn’t expire. I don’t have a way to tell because she said she never created an online account.
