unable to update antivirus

Ive downloaded avast internet sec. and have deleted all avg from my comp gave access in my fire wall tried the direct connect option, but still cant update files says it cant connect to server, does anybody know why Ive also uninstalled and reinstalled avast to no avail

Did you use the AVG removal tool yet?>>http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

You downloaded AIS, but you “gave access in your firewall”, do you mean the firewall that comes with AIS, or do you have another firewall also?

Also, how long have you been trying to update? It could just be a temporary problem with Avast!'s servers if it has not been very long.

I did not use a removal tool, i went to download avg again till it ask if I wanted to replace repair or remove and went with remove per instructions i got off the internet by firewall I meant the one on the control panel, as for how long Ive been trying this for about two weeks now. It all started when avg wanted me to download their new updated version it froze my system up so I went to avast and have already paid for it but cant update?

Yeah, and that is good, always remove normally through Windows if you can as the first option. AV remnants love to hang around, though. The FW in control panel, I’ll take it you mean Windows FW, might be the culprit also. Disable it and also run the AVG tool, see if it helps.

Well I tried the removal tool and rebooted disabled windows firewall but sill no updates, thanks but any other ideas, im lost

Try re-installing AIS in safe mode with networking.

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

I am experiencing a problem with the avast update.
I have tried re-installing the program again and it does not work at all.

Even though the Avast program shows that the engine and program are updated, my Windows Security Center reports that Avast might be out of date. I have attached with pictures.

If anyone knows what the problem is, please let me know

Thanks!

Jcyh85 your problem is different of @GRISBRAD.
Anyway… can you both remove the actual version and install the new one (is a Pre-Release version so it’s not available on the GUI, yet) ? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=69152.0

@GRISBRAD
If the problem persists for you then the problem comes from your firewall.

Sometimes, Windows Security Center stops recognizing your antivirus or firewall… So, check your system time and date and also http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23457.msg193534#msg193534
