I have Avast! on my computer through dial up. Now we have wireless connection also and when I am on that, message comes up that Avast! needs to be updated. When I try to update, it says ‘unable to connect to server’. Want to stay protected, but don’t know what to do. When I am connected through dial up, the updates are automatic. Am I doing something wrong?
What avast version are you using 4.8 or 5.0 ?
Change the Update settings to My computer is permanently connected to the internet option, rather than using a dial-up modem.
…and change the default settings to “No Proxy”!

So you now have a wireless high speed connection (i.e., DSL?) If so, did you delete the dial up connection? This also might cause what you are experiencing.
